Staff Training and Development
There are a variety of opportunities for Education, Staff Training and Professional Development at Children's Centre - Thunder Bay(C.C. - Thunder Bay) for staff, students, professionals in the community and the general public.
- Major Workshops, presented by internationally respected professionals, are held two to three times a year. These workshops are available for staff employed at the Centre, students on placement at the Centre and to the professional community. There is a fee for professionals in the community; the workshops are advertised to the professionals and agencies on our mailing list . If you would like to be on our mailing list, please contact the Staff Training Coordinator at (807) 343-5082.
- Skill Enhancement Workshops are provided for staff at the centre and students on placement at the Centre on a monthly basis. These workshops are facilitated by staff at the Centre or professionals in the community who have an interest /expertise in a particular area. Topics are varied, based on the needs of the staff and include such topics as Play Therapy, Separation and Divorce, Learning Disabilities, Brief Therapy, etc.
- Brown Bag Lunches are available to students on placement at the Centre and at other Human Service Agencies in the community. These sessions, focussed on different topic areas and facilitated by staff of the Centre, are intended to enhance the education and skill development of students on placement. These lunches will be held on the first Thursday of the month in October, November, January February and March. Topics for discussion for October and November will be available to the program coordinators at the college/ university in September and the topic areas for January, February and March will be available to program coordinators at the college/ university in December. Students external to the Centre are required to sign up for each session by contacting the receptionist at (807)343-5000 and must pick up the reading materials to preview before the session. These materials can be obtained from the coordinator of your program at the college/ university or from the Staff Training Coordinator at (807)343-5082. Students on placement at the Centre can obtain the information and reading materials from their field supervisor.
- The Parent Education Sessions are presented to the general public free of charge as part of the Centre's commitment to provide education on a variety topics related to Children's Mental Health. Although these sessions are free of charge, you are required to pre-register with the receptionist at (807)343-5000 so that we have some idea of the number of people who will be attending the session. Sessions include the following topics:
- Parenting after Separation and Divorce
- Navigating Through the Teen Years
- Understanding Your Teen & the Risks of Substance Use
- 1234 Parent Program
- A Speakers Bureau of staff who will offer workshops to the professional community for a per diem rate. As well, staff will provide workshops on children's mental health issues to non profit parent groups free of charge.
