FAMILY COURT CLINIC:
Adolescent Services Team

Description of Services
The Adolescent Services Team provides multi-disciplinary court-ordered assessments and recommendations for disposition, under Section 34 of the Criminal Code, on youth 12 to 17 years of age. The team also provides court-ordered treatment to youth who have sexually offended (SHARP Program, description attached). The Adolescent Services Team also provides consultation and assessments to other community service providers in the youth justice system.

Referral Sources
Judges from the Ontario Provincial Court (Family Division) of youth 12 years of age or over, and less than 18 years of age, for assessment due to conflict with the law

Client Description
Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 years of age, who have committed an offense according to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Program Responsibilities

  • Provide Section 34 multi-disciplinary assessments
  • Provide the Court and other service providers with recommendations regarding youths and their families.
  • Provide treatment to youth who have sexually offended, through the SHARP Program
  • Provide psychological services directly to the W.W. Creighton Youth Facilities as per the protocol agreement.
  • Adolescent Services Team participates on the SHARP Committee.
  • Provide consultative services and follow-up planning to service providers in the youth justice system.
  • Provide supervision and placement opportunities for students from Lakehead University and Confederation College.
