FAMILY COURT CLINIC:
Family Intervention Team (FIT Program)

This program has been developed to meet the unique needs of children and families involved with the Children’s Aid Society ( CAS).

Description of Services

  • Provides expertise and leadership in the treatment of children and families involved with Child Protection Services.
  • Assists families in learning new ways of parenting and improving their relationship with their children.
  • Develop an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with the family.
  • Intensive family treatment.
  • Parenting support.
  • In-home support and treatment.
  • Involves a close working relationship between the parents, the treatment team and the Children’s Aid Society.
  • Provides consultative services and follow-up planning for children in the care of CAS.
  • Provides assessment and consultative services to children placed in treatment foster care with CAS (ie., SPRING Program) as per protocol.

All individuals that present to the program for support are important; however as the best interest for each individual is in mind, some people may be better served with alternative programs and support. The following is a list of criteria that explains who may be referred to alternative services:

  • Family is not involved in child welfare services.
  • Family refuses service.
  • Refusal of family to allow Family Intervention Team and Children’s Aid Society to communicate and co-ordinate treatment services.

Referrals
Referrals can be made to the Family Intervention Team by Children’s Aid Society workers or by parent/guardian, by contacting Intake Services at 343-5000.
